Current Situation as at March 2011

There has not been very much in the way of progress concerning the Council's Master Plan for Notting Hill Gate because of the decision by Land Securities to sell their property interests here. The Council is waiting for the new owners to decide what they are proposing to do.

Meanwhile the Council has recently undertaken a small amount of public realm tidying up of street furniture within its limited budget.

Master Plan for Notting Hill Gate

The Council of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has commissioned the production of a master plan for Notting Hill Gate in order to provide a guide for dealing with future planning applications and to give local people a vision of how the Gate might develop in the future.

The Notting Hill Gate Improvements Group is constituted as an unincorporated body with representatives of local interests including the Pembridge Association, the Ladbroke Association, the Kensington Society, the Ward Councillors of Pembridge and Campden and those from other disciplines who have come together to do what they can to encourage the improvement of Notting Hill Gate. The primary movers of the Group are John Scott, the Project Coordinator, and David McHugh of the Notting Hill Arts Club. The NHIG Committee meets quarterly on a regular basis and a history of its activities and successes is covered more fully on its website. We welcome positive contributions towards our objectives so please let us have your comments on what you would like to see happening, or would prefer not to see happening, in Notting Hill Gate.

The Current Situation

A number of possible developments that are likely to affect the long term future of Notting Hill Gate are currently in their formative stages. Firstly, the consideration being given by Land Securities/Delancey to redevelop/refurbish Newcombe House, Astley House, and David Game House. Secondly, the current proposal to alter No 74 at the junction of Pembridge Gardens and Notting Hill Gate. Thirdly, the consideration being given by the Council to generally upgrade the parts of the public domain such the road layout, the pavements, the pedestrian crossovers and the lighting following the success of its scheme in Kensington High Street. This Weblog has been set up to provide a platform for communicating what is happening and enable local residents, visitors to the area and anyone else to feed back their comments.
